In the era of the do-everything handheld gadget, Flip Video Mino and the Flip Video camcorder family seems almost obsolescent. They don’t make phone calls, send instant messages, browse the Web, or even keep your calendar. So why buy flip video? LCD display that is the only viewfinder can be difficult to see outdoors on a sunny day. On the other hand, the 640-by-480-pixel images are surprisingly good for such a low-priced camera, and far better than the video taken by mobile-phone handsets. The built-in mike is more than adequate.

The Flip Video works on Apple’s OSX just as easily. Like the PC, once plugged in, it is detected as an external hard drive. While you have to install the proper software to view the video files on the Mac as well as the management and editing software on OSX, the installation software is already on the Flip Video and it walks you through setting them up quickly and easily. It’s two extra minor steps, but the installed software is identical to the easy to use PC software.
